About SIBA
Share |

Welcome to the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance. SIBA is a trade association which represents over 300 bookstores and thousands of booksellers in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Mississippi.

The Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance exists to empower, promote, and celebrate our core member bookstores in a spirit of partnership. "Core members" are independent, privately held, brick and mortar, commercially zoned bookstores with a retail storefront, in our region. Among our members are owners, managers and employees of independent bookstores, publishers' representatives, publishers, wholesalers and producers of "sideline" bookstore goods. Librarians, book reviewers, writers and other "friends of the trade" are also represented in our membership.

SIBA was formed to unite in one organization individuals and businesses actively engaged in the writing, selling, publishing, distribution and/or promoting of books in the South. SIBA provides a forum to discuss common problems and share ideas; offers educational programs and workshops for the benefit of its members; and strives to promote a high standard of ethics and business practices among the membership. SIBA exists to help you become a more profitable business, and sell more books.

Membership Benefits

SIBA has three levels of membership: Bookseller, Industry, and Associate. The Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance membership year runs through December 31 of each year. Dues must be paid by the annual Trade Show in the Fall. Membership is open to retail bookstores, as well as to book publishers, distributors, reps, vendors, prospective booksellers, national chain booksellers, and others with a professional interest in the book industry.

Booksellers: ($150) Owners of independent, privately-held, brick & mortar bookstores in AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA. Bookstores with multiple locations must register each location separately.

Industry: ($195) Publishers, Distributors, Sales Reps, Commission Reps, Wholesalers, Media, Authors with books in print and anyone else involved in the industry.

Associates: ($500) Anyone who is not a core bookstore member of SIBA, or not an industry member can join SIBA under this category. This includes authors without a book in print, teachers, librarians, bookstores outside the southeast, prospective booksellers, and online-only booksellers and others not otherwise involved in the book industry.

SIBA's primary goal is to give independent booksellers the tools to be successful in the marketplace. All of its programming and services are geared towards this one important result--the success of independent bookselling in the South. Through its newsletter and listserv, it promotes networking and a sense of community among booksellers. The SIBA Bestseller list, ARTS calendar, Book Awards and holiday catalogs raise the visibility of its member stores among the reading public. SIBA also sponsors cost-saving business tools such as its shipping program to help its members increase their profitability. The SIBA Discovery Show combines all these benefits in one annual jam-packed weekend filled with new books, new authors, and new ideas from scores of book industry professionals. Yearly dues are nominal, so why wait?
