Read This Next!

"Booksellers beat algorithms all day long. One thing an algorithm cannot do is read a book, think of you, and know it is your kind of book. This is something booksellers do all day long, and in their sleep. Through Read This! Books with Street Cred, we're bringing SIBA booksellers' thoughts about their favorite new books to readers in every indie store across the South."--Wanda Jewell, Executive Director, Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance

SIBA booksellers now have another tool for selling new releases they love: Read This Next! Books with Street Cred.

Building on the success of AuthorsRoundTheSouth.com's Read This! Books with Street Cred, SIBA now offers seasonal collections featuring the hottest new releases hand-picked and hand-curated by member booksellers. SIBA booksellers will have access to downloadable shelf-talkers, a downloadable flyer of the seasonal collection, and links to hundreds of books in our Read This! archive. SIBA looks forward to providing printed shelf-talkers and flyers as we launch our Read This Next! Extended and Read This Next! Kids in Summer 2018.

Read This Next! complements SIBA's Okra Picks by drawing attention to new releases beyond our geographical borders, highlighting that southern booksellers read everything and everywhere, and are passionate about literature. Want a sneak peak?

Read This Next FAQs:

What, exactly, is "Read This Next" and how is it different from "Read This" or Okra Picks?

Just as Okra Picks highlights new and forthcoming Southern books, Read This Next highlights new and forthcoming books that are not "Southern" in nature but are books SIBA member stores are excited about.

How are books chosen? Is there a nomination process?

Books are selected for Read This Next from the recommendations and reviews that are submitted to SIBA via Edelweiss. (Email Linda-Marie if you don't know how to submit reviews on Edelweiss) No separate nomination is required. SIBA seeks diversity in both the books selected, and in the recommending stores, and showcases well-written and enticing reviews.

What is the schedule?

Like the Okra Picks, Read This Next is published seasonally:

  • Winter: for books publishing December - February, announced December 1
  • Spring: for books publishing March - May, announced March 1
  • Summer: for books publishing June - August, announced June 1
  • Fall: for books publishing September - November, announced September 1

In addition, a Read This Next Kids is produced for the summer
