Hello Beloved Booksellers,

Wanda JewellI want to add my comments to Diane’s letter below. The ABC Children’s Institute is going to be in Orlando, Florida, and I so hope to see many of you there. This is such an exciting opportunity not only for us to hear some of the best childrens’ programming around but also a unique opportunity to meet up with one another and connect with librarians. Having recently hosted Kate DiCamillo at SIBA in the Springtime, I can’t wait to hear her keynote address. I am eager to learn where the Children’s Book Market is headed because as go the kids, so goes the rest of us. And Thirty Million Words: this innovative simple idea offers so many opportunities for bookstores – simply changing the name of Storytime to Thirty Million Words is a great beginning, no?

My main purpose for attending ABC CI is for the Roundtable – Coordinating a Regional Handselling Challenge. I’d love to see SIBA spearhead handselling challenges across our region to show-off our clout. Our book award finalists, okra picks, and Lady Banks’ picks of the week are all great opportunities to enter into SIBA Handselling Challenges. And speaking of handselling challenges, we are currently in the midst of One Book, One South, Jr. with Kate DiCamillo’s Raymie Nightingale. I hope you are participating.. I hope those of you attending will join me at the roundtable as I’d love to hear your thoughts. SIBA booksellers who join me at this Roundtable will receive 25 B3! Points.

Many of you do not know this  but before I came to work for SIBA I was a school librarian. In that capacity I attended several American Library Association conventions. We all have the opportunity to attend this years’ Annual ALA Conference & Exhibition, immediately following the ABC Children’s Institute. The ALA has graciously gifted SIBA with a booth so you will have a home base. SIBA will be introducing all of your stores to librarians across the country. We will be promoting One Book, One South, and we will have the Trio Exhibit on display, our Call Me Ishmael phone live, and launch our brand new consumer brochure here. We’d love to have as many of you at our booth as would like to be there.

So here’s the amazing offer I’m willing to make with you. Sign up for the ABC Children’s Institute. Book your hotel room and for every two nights you stay past June 23, and come hang out with us at ALA, SIBA will match with one free hotel night at #SIBA16 in Savannah, GA. We will also give you 100 B3! Points. Give it some thought. Let’s hang out!

With love and admiration,

Wanda Jewell
Your Executive Director

Dear SIBA Colleagues,

I am so excited that the ABC Children’s Institute is coming to our region this June 21-23 at the Wyndham Orlando Resort International in Orlando, Florida!
For anyone who has previously attended Winter Institute or Children’s Institute, you are already familiar with the high-quality, compelling programming that ABA and ABC Group offer. And if you haven’t yet already registered for Ci4, I highly encourage you to join me in Orlando for a full day-and-half of programming designed specifically for booksellers specializing in children’s literature.

If you attended our recent meeting in Atlanta earlier this month, you might remember how much I gushed about Children's Institute. At Little Shop of Stories, we have found it to be an invaluable experience for our booksellers. The speakers, panels, and roundtables offer so much information you won’t be able to get back home to your store and begin implementing everything you learn. But in addition to the education, the opportunity the conference provides to network with fellow children’s booksellers is beyond measure.

If you can't make it, I hope you will consider sending a staff member. You won't regret it!

Click here to register now! Space is filling quickly and I hope to see you there!

All Best,

Diane Capriola
